"The Dawning of Dystopia," the full-length debut of American newcomers RULED BY REASON, is a different take from the norm of today's extreme metal scene. Whereas the majority of albums rely on very similar songwriting and structure, RULED BY REASON's songs are generally constructed of through-composed material, each song offering something different from the next and always taking unique twists and turns, exciting the mind and moving the body. Focusing on melody, harmony, and technicality while throwing in copious amounts of brutality (whereas most others rely on the opposite today), "The Dawning of Dystopia" is an emotionally driven onslaught of soaring melodicism and dazzling instrumental skill, all within the framework of death metal but offering listeners of all extreme metal something evocative.
