Les Salonnières
1001 Nights - Sheherazade And The Power Of Storytelling
The album 1001 Nights. Sheherazade and the Power of Storytelling places the very act of narration at its core, summoning both the eighteenth-century European imagination of the Orient and the tangible exchanges between Istanbul and the courts of Central Europe. Melodies by Ali Ufkî, taken from the Mecmua-i saz u soz preserved in Paris and London, are interwoven with trios and sonatas by Stamitz, Wendling, Holzbauer and Franzl, late blossoms of the Mannheim school, here performed on period instruments. The artistic concept of Les Salonnières transforms the trio medium into a modern sound-salon, in which each piece unfolds like yet another night in an ongoing sequence of tales, poised between exotic allure, Galant refinement and a quiet meditation on the circulation of stories and repertoires.
