Kumbia Temor/kumbia Bogota
Conjunto Media Luna and Turbo Sonidero bring together two distinct approaches to contemporary kumbia, rooted in Bogotá and Puebla. Both projects have spent years pushing their respective traditions into new territories, between accordion music, electronics, sound art and the darker edges of tropical music. On the A-side, "Kumbia Temor" reflects the uncertainty of a present that already feels dystopian: grey, urban and industrial, but still driven by the need to dance, make noise and keep moving. "Kumbia Bogotá", on the B-side, turns towards the city itself its traffic, concrete, nightlife and constant intensity, where exhaustion and celebration exist side by side. Mateo Rívano's artwork extends this world through an 8-bit and 16-bit aesthetic, looking back to a time when dystopian futures still belonged to videogames and fiction. A meeting between Bogotá and Puebla, the 45 explores cities, movement, fear and pleasure in the strange present we are living through. It is part of the forthcoming album by Conjunto Media Luna and Turbo Sonidero, due for release on Bongo Joe Records.
