Franz Schubert: Piano Sonata I

The album Piano Sonatas I inaugurates a Schubertian journey conceived as a true sonata triptych, in which the exploratory freshness of 1817, the luminous Steyr summer and the late metaphysical inwardness of 1828 are drawn into a single poetic horizon. The Sonata in A flat major D. 557 belongs to the years when the young Schubert, still under the tutelage of Mozart and Haydn, translates the breath of song and domestic dance into the keyboard idiom. In the Sonata in A major D. 664 that voice assumes a more intimate, radiant profile, poised between Classical clarity and inward cantabile. With the Sonata in B flat major D. 960, his final great work for piano, time itself seems to dilate: the Viennese soundscape becomes an interior landscape where memory, silence and monumental design converge in an authentically poetic testament.
