Brazilian musical culture is the result of a fascinating blend of pre-Colombian, European, and African strains. These are beautifully represented by the musicians whose works are recorded here. Many of them were of Italian origins, and the influence of Italian opera is observable in the works by Radams Gnattali, Francisco Mignone, and Camargo Guarnieri. Heitor Villa-Lobos did not share their Italian roots, but all four of them are among the best known and most appreciated Brazilian musicians who gave voice to this countrys extraordinary musical soul.
