Biafra, Jello -with The Melvins-
Never Breathe What You Can't See (black)
The story began when the Melvins approached Jello with a proposal born of disgust at the shameless Dead Kennedys cash-in reunion tour. Their counteroffer? A tag-team assault on the American Way of Life, with the Melvinsbacking Jello on a tour of Dead Kennedys material. Jello had a better idea: rather than exhume the past, why not write something new? And just like that, a whole new beast crawled out of the primordial punk-rock swamp. The result is Never Breathe What You Can't See, an album that brings together the distinctive strengths of both camps without sounding like a retread of either. Sound-wise it's half way between Lard and Dead Kennedys and a fresh reminder that neither age nor experience has done a damn thing to tame Jello Biafra and the Melvins.
