On this CD he is joined by keyboardist Gordon Beck (who had recently succeeded George Gruntz and would later play with Allan Holdsworth), bassist Henri Texier and drummer Daniel Humair for two of his originals and four by Beck. Woods not onlY plays alto but a varitone saxophone, clarinet and an English recorder. The music is unpredictable while also being witty, celebratory and exhilarating. The playing is both challenging and at times a bit riotous. " A highpoint is the lengthy "Chromatic Banana" which goes through several sections and time signatures. Other selections are open to the influences of rock, funk and early 1970s pop with "Ultimate Choice" having some straight ahead sections
