After years of haunting the internet, minds, and hearts, here at last is the debut album from the now Berlin-based band, a graceful gem that unites melancholy and a spirit of new beginnings, its wonderful arrangement immediately captivating the listener. With "Wonderful Life," Voodoo Beach deliver post-punk/noise rock of the highest caliber. Similar to bands like Karies, Die Nerven, Friends Of Gas, or Messer, Voodoo Beach have been shaped by 90s noise rock and blend these influences with an obvious love for post-punk and shoegaze. Harsh riffs meet guitar riffs that shimmer through the air, rolling bass lines, and gripping drumming. The guitar chords are fascinating, sometimes with a slightly Middle Eastern touch, but always firmly within the post-punk/noise rock/psychedelic framework. Soaring above it all are the smoky vocals of singer Heike Rädeker, whose lyrics are so honest they hurt. With Hendrik Otremba (knife) and John Moods (window), the band secured fantastic guest contributions for the album.
