Cross Coltrane with The Clash and it would resemble the sound of this record. Instead of a vocalist, saxophone-legend-to-be Kamasi Washington takes the lead and raises the bar for instrumental intensity. The compositions range from short, punk-minded flurries to thematic uptempo romps, rounded out with a few expansive journeys. Kamasi s tonality is comparable to that of a young Pharoah Sanders and bonds well with the electric undercurrent laid down by punk drummer/guitarist Lumpy and bassist/ keyboardist Matt Mongomery.
