Drakulas
Midnight City (blue)
Drakulas move in the shadows of a neoned, late'70s cityprotopunk bite, garage grit, '80s synth ghosts and newwave chill wrapped in world-building, nocturnal lyrics. Conceived as an art experiment by Savage Lord Mic, Sam Francisco (Riverboat Gamblers) and Pink Rick (Rise Against), and filled out with a rotating cast of sketchy characters, Drakulas quickly shed their daylight skinsblack turtlenecks, medallions, VHS flickerand became emissaries of a cinematic underworld where drugs, arcade lights, pornography and occult whispers score the streets. Their 3rd LP, Midnight City turns up the musical quirk factor a bit, with fully-realized, inter-connected songs that are at the same time unsettling and yet weirdly danceable.
