Charles, Chuck

Hiya

On his latest release Chuck Charles "Hiya"... The new album features 14 new original songs (and a cover of The Killers' "Read My Mind"). In keeping with his bands' tradition of lighthearted take on non-traditional subject matter, the album is a celebration of tv fandom, supermarket consumerism and includes an 8-minute overt salute to Bob Dylan in the style of his 1960s free-for-alls. Singer/songwriter Chuck Charles is releasing a new album ... also available on 8-track tape. Charles, whose real name is Charlie Recksieck and frontman for San Diego bands The Bigfellas and Leaders In The Clubhouse, is pushing out his first solo release, Hiya. Why is Charles choosing the 8-track format? To hear him say it, "Audiophiles love to talk about the warmth and hiss of vinyl. I always found that kind of precious, so I wanted to have some fun with the format. If you want 'hiss', then buckle up for listening on 8-track." For those unfamiliar with his music, Recksieck is a veteran piano player and songwriter, a staple of the San Diego music scene once described in a review as "the stupid man's Randy Newman." His band The Bigfellas has had its most success with humorous songs such as "I Wish That I Were Gay" and a hip-hop take on golf "On The Green" which serves as the theme song for the Super 70s Sports Podcast, among other songs appearing in TV and films.
