Bhajan Bhoy

Live At Le Guess Who?

In the summer of 2025, Bhajan Bhoy released "Summer In St. Mary's", an album of beautiful and highly meditative and minimalist compositions with repetitive motifs, played on a 19th century church organ in the 15th century church of St. Mary's in the small village of South Cowton in North Yorkshire (U.K.). The album was met with international acclaim, and it led to an invitation to play at the highly respected and famous Le Guess Who? Festival in Utrecht on Friday 7 November 2025. The show that followed was met with wonderment and praise by an enraptured audience in the Buurkerk, and fortunately, for the world at large, it was recorded for posterity. "I don't really know where to begin. This show at Le Guess Who? festival (Friday 7 November 2025) was one of the most emotional and personal shows I've ever been involved in. A complete connection between the music and listeners. Between musician and instrument. Between circumstances and environment. It was magical. 500 people crammed into the church. Sitting, standing and lying down. Everyone connected. Everyone there travelling the spaceways together. An incredibly deep concert. The reception at the end is something I will never forget" (Ajay Saggar / Bhajan Bhoy). "A "must-see" heard in many conversations is Ajay Saggar, aka Bhajan Bhoy, who plays specially commissioned tracks and cuts from his latest album "Summer In St. Mary's"on the organ in the Speelklok Museum. This is a very affecting set. The drone of the huge, 35 pipe behemoth, coupled with the clear, simple patterns invoked by Saggar, finds further accord with a tangible sense of quiet determination to create, whatever the cost. Saggar's set is a gift to all" (The Quietus / Richard Foster) "Friday's highlight is Bhajan Bhoy's church organ recital of this year's album "Summer In St. Mary's". Minimalist, lengthy, and free to drone, it's an immersive experience that pulses with cosmic illumination." (MOJO Magazine / Ian Harrison) "Bhajan Bhoy coaxes new timbres from the instrument. For minimalism, and repetition can be a strength, especially when coupled with a drone-like approach. I see some members of the audience sprawled out on the ground in a meditative state fully absorbing what is on offer. Presumably, a whole new world is opening up for them with this music. They deserve it." (De Kettingzaag)
