Azawan ("music" in Kabyle language) is a quintet at the crossroads between jazz and Algerian chaâbi. It follows the steps of El Hadj M'hamed El Anka (1907-1978), father of the chaâbi who put African and European influences into dialogue (Andalusi classical music, Jewish music, jazz, and Berber culture, the importance of which is to often ignored of neglected).
