Originally released in 1982, Black Tiger was the album with which San Francisco rockers Y&T followed their astonishing Earthshaker opus and, though not quite in the same class as its predecessor (what could be.?), the album has much to recommend it. tracks like 'Open Fire and the barnstorming Forever remain crowd pleasers to this day. Nobody who was there could possibly forget the bands fantastic performance at a seriously dangerously over crowded Marquee club in Londons soho district in support of this album. Available here for the first time on CD in Europe in a digitally remastered form, now would be a good time to pick up on one of the best albums of the early 80s

Previously released as a sold out vinyl release on Destructure Records, the Year of No Light split/collaboration with thisquietarmy sees a shiny brand new edition on cd.Both bands are pretty distinct and sound miles apart - not only geographically with Year of No Light hailing from Bordeaux (France) and thisquietarmy being a native of Montreal (Canada), but also musically. Where thisquietarmy operates within the register of dreamy doom/drone soundscapes, infused with krautrock, post-rock, doom and even black metal, Year of No Light uses a more heavy vocabulary with their music firmly rooted in sludge and doom/drone metal. While the things that separates them are obvious, influences of shoegaze, ambient an psychedelic rock - to name just a few things - binds them. They most certainly have their own unique voice, as can be heard on this split. (Each band contributes a track, displaying why they are at the top of their respective genre) Yet, the collaborative tracks on this album demonstrate the aural magic that appears when the two bands combine their forces. Yellow Sunshine Explosion was a German Neo Psychedelic Bandfounded 1981 by Hans Hubert Schlexer, Thomas Peter Hopf andGeorg Eckbert Schulte.Hans Hubert, at that time playing the trump, later on bass andvocals, and Thomas Hopf (drums) played music already since1979 in various experimental- and electronic bands beforeGeorge joined the band with e-guitar and vocals. First theycovered songs of the 60s, later they arranged more own songs.After some offi cial concerts and party gigs, all of a suddenin Dortmund in the mid 80s about 200 people showed up inpaisley-shirts with frilly collars. Around 1984 an British/Canadiannamed Paul Hadley Langley showed up. His grandmother was anIroquois, just like his haircut. With his bluesharps he then was afi x part of the band from 1988 onwards. For some gigs and somesongs on the vinyl ,Yellow Sunshine Explosion", recorded 1987in Berlin, Huggy Borchert on piano and Gerd Neumann alias,Swami Ravioli" on sitar joined the recording session.End of the 80s the three founding members moved into arenovated hog house at the city limit which formerly was a haircutting studio and in which the wife of the hair cutter did suicideby hanging herself - but this the band get to know years later.Their style changed from the 60s garage beat to a completelyown sound- and rhythm-structures, which never existed before(or later) in this way.

Yellow6, the solo project of British guitarist Jon Attwood, has been releasing music, variously categorised as drone, post-rock, space-rock, minimalist, shoegaze and ambient since 1998. With a body of work totalling over 110 individual releases, Sounds and Moving Pictures is the first CD/DVD release from this prolific artist. Sounds [compact disc]: The CD features the audio recording, here mixed from the audience and video sources. The 30 minute live set features three songs: 00:30, Plane Ari and Norwest Passage. The remainder of the CD features audience recordings from all of the dates on the tour (Wanquetin, Lille, Antwerp, Paris, Liege). These have been manipulated into 6 parts across 40 minutes by David Newlyn, a well respected artist in his own right, who has collaborated with Yellow6 previously (Minatures, Hibernate Recordings) and runs the Cathedral Transmissions label.Moving Pictures [digital versatile disc]: The Live Looping video is the main feature of the DVD.
