Limited edition of 500 LPs with insert.1978 and especially 1979 were confusing times for young punks in the provinces. If you didn't want to go all arty and post -punk, or buy a stupid skinny tie and go New Wave, you were doomed to be terminally unfashionable. Two years later, you were still terminally unfashionable, but you could sell records. But that's another story.As 1978 wore on, we thanked God for the likes of UK Subs and Angelic Upstarts, and here in Brizzle...the mighty X-Certs! With Clive Arnold (vocals and guitar), Simon Justice (guitar), Taf (bass) and Neil Mackie (drums), The X-Certs served up welcome blasts of Clash-style punk anthems. They were politically charged and passionate, friendly and down to earth, and a great live act, but for some reason their recordings were relatively few and far between. One track, Blue Movies, on Hearbeat Records' 4-Alternatives EP, and another called Anthem on the same label's acclaimed Avon Calling compilation album. And that's yer lot with the original line up.

Emerging from a collaboration between two acts, their friend- ships and passion to produce music together, XXL aka Xiu Xiu and Larsen 'D' is their third studio album following on from '? Spicchiology?' which saw the group touring and uniting furthermore as a band rather than a side project. Remaining true to their previous endeavours the album was recorded with a similar disciplined 'real time' process in mind. Improvised, rearranged and recorded the day after. 'Film Me In The Laundry'is a three part voyeuristic composition that takes the listener through the record. The opening instrumental begins with Larsen leading the improvisation. Part 2 comes later - a much shorter piece with heavy bass and rhythm akin to the suggested environment. Part 3 brings the album to D's last chapter 'closing time'. XXL's funkier number 'Disco Chrome' brings up the pace of the record with a heavy dose of Xiu Xiu style percussion and synths. It features Ernesto Tomasini's dramatic falsetto and was recorded via a phone call from London. In 'Apsorbtion' one hears an electrified Kaolimba accompanied by Ramon Moro on the trumpet and flugelhorn. Following this comes 'Krampus' a dark and majestic ode to the mythical creature recognized in Alpine countries with Korean spoken word from Angela. 'Oi! D' fills 18 minutes with XXL krautrock visions as that leads to Vaire - a remix of itself for a single that does not exist inspired by 80s extended remixes. Notably it's the first track where Jamie Stewart's vocals appear
