CONSOULING SOUN
Once again, the one-man drone machine thisquietarmy from Montreal (Canada) teams up with another sonically different experimental post-rock band Labirinto from Sao Paulo (Brazil). They both met and played together in Montreal when Labirinto was touring in North America (early 2012). While Labirinto & thisquietarmy are from different hemispheres, they both have a mutual admiration for each other's sound and work ethics, as well as their shared influences of textured sounds such ambient,psychedelic, post-rock & black metal. Furthermore, their common perspective of the world have bound them to create a record inspired by cultural & social values, political situations and universal phenomenons. As an ambitious 7-piece band, Labirinto's instrumentation includes a combination of orchestral guitar riffs, synthesizers, bass, cello, drums & percussion. Their critically acclaimed 2010 debut album "Anatema" was by mixed Greg Norman (Pelican, Russian Circles) - this time, they asked Tony Doogan (Mogwai) to mix the tracks for this split record. This posthumous release is not only a valuable historical document, but also one very kick-ass piece of rock'n'roll! The band featured Peter Holsapple, Will Rigby and Bob Northcott and with later sessions Chris Stamey and Mitch Easter. Band members went on to be the core of the Db's, as well as perform with Steve Earl, Let's Active, R.E.M. etc. Original garage rock tunes as well as classics from Bowie, The Who, MC5, and The beatles are delivered with punk rock fury. Had this album seen the light of day in the early 70's when it was recorded Little Diesel would probably be discussed with the same bated breath as rock'n'roll flag bearers like The Flamin' Groovies, MC5 and The Stooges!

Perhaps no babysitter in history got a bigger break than Eva Narcissus Boyd, who babysat for songwriters Carole King and Gerry Goffin. It was early 1962 when they were inspired by a dance Little Eva was doing around the house and wrote a song called "The Locomotion". Originally meant for Dee Dee Sharp, returning home one day Carole and Gerry found their babysitter singing it. They liked what they heard, so they rushed her into the studio, with King doing the backing vocals. Little Eva was only sixteen when "The Locomotion" hit #1. Her salary as the Goffins' babysitter was $35 dollars a week. Her earnings from "The Locomotion" were reported to be around thirty thousand dollars. She appeared on television shows and in numerous magazines. She performed live in the U.S. and did several tours of England. Remembered by most as a one hit wonder Little Eva was more than that and her debut album on the DIMENSION label reveals one of the funniest yet talented artists of the "girl groups" era. Also features her second chart smasher "Keep Your Hands Off My Baby", later covered on stage by the Beatles.

Following on from co---compiling one of 2012s best received compilations Into The Light: A Journey into Greek Electronic Music, new Amsterdam based record label Music From Memory sets sail with a compilation of lo---fi beach funk and lazy synth jams from the Rhode Island keyboardist and ocean loving Leon Lowman. As well as a devoted painter and surfer of the East Coast, the synthesizer loving Lowman privately released two albums "Syntheseas" (1980) and its follow up cassette only "Sound Horizon" (1982). Something of a homage to his love of the local seashore and the women he was trying to woo there, the albums also express Leon's pure love of the synthesizer sound and reflect his unique melodic wanderings.
