Critical Obsession" reeks of hard work and intense dedication, Gates of Hell truly excels this time by crafting a conceptual work that invites listeners to take a journey through the mind of an individual with psychiatric problems, describing the various phases, the depressive states and ultimately the resolution of his trauma throughout these eleven tracks. The album comes with a fantastic 20-page booklet featuring the illustrations of Joao Diogo (Bizarra Locomotiva, Switchtense and Echidna) that provide the visual art to the theme explored in the lyrics. Recorded and mastered at Soundvision Studios by Paulo Lopes and featuring a special guest performance by Esben Hansen of HateSphere on the track "Abusive Resolution", "Critical Obsession" displays a blasting fusion of blood-curling hardcore fury with the pummelling force of thrash and the rampaging intensity of death metal. Its a powerful concoction of styles that is bound to create some havoc in the pit.
