- DRAMATIC FUNK THEMES, VOL. 1 - (CD) SHOW UP
20 Unreleased Big Funk Scores! British Rare Grooves from the THEMES INTERNATIONAL MUSIC Library 1973-1976. One would never have imagined that an unexhausted supply of amazing funky, groovy compositions and hidden treasures from the 1970s would emerge from the vaults and shed light on the world over 30 years later. "Dramatic Funk Themes Vol.1" is a collection of such gems, all of which originate from the archives of the Themes International Music Library. Soundtracks for scenes which did not exist at the time - sometimes action-packed, dramatic or driving - such as a high speed car chase - or sometimes more laid-back and relaxed like crusing in a ragtop through the city. These are the scenes played out over a musical backdrop loaded with wah-wah guitars, deep basslines, rhodes, clavinets, analogue synthesizers, hammond organs, flutes, razor-sharp brass, groovy percussion and solid drum beats.

- DRAMATIC FUNK THEMES, VOL. 2 - (CD) SHOW UP
Funk Themes' Vol. 1, which was released last year, enabled many dramatic funk gems from the Themes International Music Library archives to see the light of day for the first time. For the second title in the series we track down some additional treasures raided from the archives of the British libraries KPM, Music De Wolfe, Bruton Music, Peer International, Rouge Music, Josef Weinberger and Programme Music. 18 previously unreleased songs from British session musicians such as Alan Hawkshaw, Brian Bennett, Keith Mansfield, John Cameron, Steve Gray and Nick Ingman create the tension of a full length mental cinema: 70s soundtrack aesthetics, action-packed, driving, dramatic and sometimes majestically relaxed scenes that are coming to your mind. All variations of Funk are represented: whether Blaxploitation, Big-Band, Orchestral or Jazz laden, the groove leads the way and allows DJs and Beat Producers to create that faster heartbeat sensation due to the numerous drum breaks, samples and loops hidden in the songs. The 18 various Library LPs from which this compilation was made, were never released commercially and were only pressed in small quantities in order to provide a catalogue of music for use by radio, film, television and other production companies. Nowadays one has to dig deep in the pocket when lucky enough to come across these highly-sought original LPs in second-hand market places such as eBay. It is estimated to cost as much as 1300 US Dollars in order to acquire all the original LPs that make up this compilation! Good job that we've put together the best choice of funk cuts from these original LPs - now remastered from the original master tapes - and available in the shops for the first time!
TRACKLISTING: 01. T. Elerth - Beatin It 02. John Hawksworth - Flash Barrier 03. Frank Macdonald & Chris Rae - Soul City Drive 04. Keith Mansfield - Hot Property 05. Nick Ingman - Thrust 06. - GERMAN FUNK FIEBER #2 - (CD) SHOW UP
Exactly a year after the release of German Funk Fieber Vol.1, which introduced this mysterious German funk virus into the world, the fever rolls on unabated. On Vol. 2 meet the funkiest moments of all time classic "Krauty Schlager Wonders" such as Joy Fleming, Manfred Krug or Kati Kovacs with the orchestrated big band funk from maestro James Last, Les Humphries or Fredy Brock. Malcolms Locks "Get Up Stand Up", an afro funk cover version of Bob Marleys classic hit, produced by Peter Herbolzheimer, remains a rare and worldwide sought-after gem appearing on CD for the first time. Lead singer Malcolm Magaron was previously a singer with Les Humphries, then later a member of Germanys most successful disco project Boney M. Also on the most wanted lists of leading rare groove DJs is the Peter Hauke (Supermax) produced afro funk album from "The Cosmic Sound Orchestra" which was only ever released in Germany. The East German rock bands Lift and Panta Rhei hit a socially critical tone, especially Lifts "Wenn" which is, by todays standards, a particularly captivating and groovy timepiece reflecting the abolition of the former Democratic Republic of Germany. Ingfried Hoffmann, better known as a composer of several childrens television series ("Robbi, Tobbi und das Fliewatuut", "Hallo Spencer"), plies us with his soul cut "Memphis Black", a very alternative cover version of George Clintons classic "Testify". Another awesome and until now completely unknown jazz-funk instrumental version of "Sunny" is on offer by the Jochen Brauer Sextett. Edo Zanki, who nowadays collaborates with the "Sohne Mannheims", performs under the alias "Don Anderson" and impressively demonstrates that he is the "Godfather of German Soul". We are also treated to a previously unpublished funk classic from the German film music legend Peter Thomas ("Raumpatrouille Orion") along with titles from the jazz studio musicians Siegfried Schwab, Eric Thoener, Roland Kovac and Juergen Franke. All in all, 13 of these 18 tracks appear on CD for the very first time and none have appeared on compilations before.
