After the release of their Digital Demo ,Uncharted Territories" in August 2010 (also via Midsummer Records) it is now time for their debut full length ,ORIENTATION". Recorded at ,Die Tonmeisterei" in Oldenburg, Germany, the record shows the Five-Piece from its best sides - raw, pristine, unpolished. Versatile, but not scatterbrained. Massive walls of sound are juxtaposed with frail melodies, brutal riffs find their place as well as meandering sound collages. ,ORIENTATION" lives, breathes, searches. To even further emphasize these attributes, each copy comes in handmade, handnumbered silkscreened packaging, making it an individual item.

Dealing with a fictional family drama, ,The Void" tells an atmospherically dense story of identity loss, isolation, and grief - but also one of hope and the struggle against fate and predestination. An album that breaks conventions, crosses borders, broadens horizons. Titled "Versus", it will divide their fanbase, surprise them, challenge them, overwhelm some. That is a risk the band is willing to take. AN EARLY CASCADE leave not a trace of doubt that this is exactly what they chose to become. Songs like "Lightning Speed" are still reminiscent of their past output, but with the opening song "Everything Is Wrong Everything Is Ok" alone, AEC lets the listener know that this band decided to no longer follow the rules but MAKE them. This is not a band "experimenting" - they obviously know very well what they are doing. At times, "Versus" intangibly resembles Circa Survive, Fear Before, Fall of Troy, even Muse.

On their debut, CITY LIGHT THIEF present a clever mixture of Indie, Punk, Pop, and Post-Core. Rarely are you going to hear just one voice on this one - "Laviin" (which, fittingly, is Estonian for "avalanche") has lots and lots of choirs that keep dueling, branching, coalescing. The ten compositions on "Laviin" make you forget that you are actually listening to a very young band (and one from Germany, of all places!). "Laviin" is wild, "Laviin" is loud, "Laviin" is quiet, "Laviin" is emotional, and above all, it is one-of-a-kind. At some points you might be reminded of old TAKING BACK SUNDAY. Other, more playful and/or chaotic parts may evoke comparisons to FALL OF TROY or even AT THE DRIVE-IN, while the pop-appeal could be blamed on MINUS THE BEAR...or maybe someone listened to TRIP FONTAINE for too long? We don't know for sure. What we do know, however, is that "Laviin" proves to be a very special record for both the band and the label - and hopefully for you as well."

Two years and almost one hundred shows later the question the Hanoverian band had to face was: How do you write the follow-up to a debut album that was described as a ,masterpiece" in more than just a few places, and that made its way into the hearts and minds of an ever growing fanbase? THE HIRSCH EFFEKT chose to lay low, focus, and rebuild. In a vacation home in the middle of nowhere they started writing songs about loneliness, helplessness, and the fear of abandonment, thereby laying the foundation for ,Holon: Anamnesis". While ,Holon: Hiberno" already had its recurrent themes, its successor is substantially and deliberately build around a leitmotif that runs like a thread through the lyrics, the music, and the artwork. Musically, everything seems to be bigger than before. More than a dozen guest musicians participated in the making of ,Holon: Anamnesis". Recordings took place in several studios as well as in theaters and churches. ,Holon: Anamnesis" is more extreme, more disturbing, more fragile, more metal, and more pop than its predecessor, and at times it manages to be all of the above at the same time.
