The Sing Something Simple concept, originally devised by Cliff Adams and initially commissioned by the BBC for six radio programmes made its debut airing in July 1959. The concept proved to be immediately popular and successful, prompting the release of an album before the year was out and the radio show still being aired when Cliff Adams died in 2001. Over the years the singers would tackle repertoire by everyone from Elvis Presley to the Everly Brothers and West End shows as well as more traditional childrens material. Here we present their debut album, something of an homage to easy listening!

The Sing Something Simple concept first appeared in 1959 for the BBC Light Programme. Initially contracted for just six shows, the immediate popularity and reception would see the concept continue even beyond the death of its creator, Cliff Adams in 2001! During the forty years or so that the radio show was running, Cliff used the singers to record a wide variety of albums, all sticking closely to the formula of presenting a number of well known songs in medley form. This album, which was originally recorded for Pickwick during the 1990s, sees numerous shows featured over the course of the 22 titles, including eternal favourites such as Edelweiss, Spread A Little Happiness and Any Dream Will Do.

Something Old Something New debuted on television on 28 February 1961 and quickly became a ratings winner,with a 28 week series being extremely well received.That it should become a success was not a surprise to Cliff Adams, for he had already proved on the radio thathis formula, lifting old but well known songs and giving them a more modern interpretation could capture a largeaudience.
