In 1961 Tamla had issued a compilation album Tamla Special #1, an album that gathered together all of the Aand B sides of singles released that same year. Whilst several of the tracks have continued to appear on countlesscompilations ever since, the rarity of the other tracks prompted Motown to do much the same in 1962, gatheringtogether both sides of singles by Mary Wells and Eddie Holland. Here the rarity are the two tracks by TheValadiers, whose Greetings (This Is Uncle Sam) would be later revived and taken into the charts by The Monitors.

It was an undertaking of almost biblical proportions; gathering together nearly fifty readers and allocating to each sections of both the New and Old Testaments read by a very long list of famous and well know personalities, such as Cliff Richard, Norman Wisdom, Diana Rigg, Marti Webb, Bernard Cribbens, Wendy Craig, Paul Jones, Harry Secombe and Toya Wilcox to name just a few, and combining these with classical music. That undertaking fell to producer Gordon Lorenz, who over a period of a year recorded several hundred hours of material. He then spent many weeks working in the studio editing it down to present a package spread over a total of nineteen discs. These were originally released as two separate packages but have been combined here, together with a bonus CD of hymns, to present the ultimate New Testament and Psalms boxset. 20 disc set packed in 10 double slim DVD boxes and wrapped in a card outer box.

By the time 1958 came around, rock and roll was well on its way to being the predominant musical style in thecharts. Whilst other artists may well have got there first, it was Elvis Presley that was the spearhead to the movement,with Jailhouse Rock one of the stand out tracks of the year. A new decade and almost a new era, for as popular music entered the 1960s, the signs were already evident that things were beginning to shift. There would still be occasional room for the crooners, but hits from this particular source were becoming less frequent.
