Set in 1968s Swinging London, Escalation, was the debut film of then 25-year-old director Roberto Faenza. True to his youth, Faenzas dark comedy dealt with the war being waged between armies of bourgeois parents and their hippy offspring. The tale of Luca, the neer-do-well son of a wealthy Italian industrialist, and his fathers attempt use any means necessary to bring him home to Italy and make him take his rightful place at the helm of the family empire (even if it means destroying him). Ennio Morricones unique ability to use music to express the inner psyche of his films protagonists is what makes his scores so unique. Here Morricone teams up with fellow composer Bruno Nicolai and the vocalizations of Alessandro Alessandronis "Cantori Moderni", making this one of his less minimal soundtracks, as both and orchestra and a choir is used. In 1968 Morricone was at the height of his career, scoring not only Sergio Leones classic "Once Upon a Time in the West", but also, unbelievably, more than 20 other films! 140 gram LP. Original 1974-75 recordings by Canadian PROTO-PUNK LEGENDS, Simply Saucer!! Formed in Hamilton Ontario in 1973, Simply Saucer played a "Rust Belt" style of proto-punk shared by bands like The Stooges, the Electric Eels and Pere Ubu, but that also harkened across the sea to the likes of Syd Barretts Pink Floyd (in fact, the bands name was a reference to PFs "A Saucerful of Secrets") and Can (due to their use of primitive electronics a là Michel Karoli), with some Lou Reed-esque vocals thrown in for good measure. But despite their reign as one of the greatest Canadian bands of ALL TIME, Simply Saucer disbanded without ever recording a proper album. This LP (posthumously called one of the best Canadian albums of all time) is a mix of studio tracks produced by the soon-to-be famous Daniel Lanois (U2 / Bob Dylan, etc.) in July of 1974, plus a live concert recorded on the roof a shopping mall in Hamilton in July 1975.

Originally released in 1996, it was their second double CD of the year (along with Dante's Disneyland Inferno). Partly an ethno-surrealist take on places and forms known (Indonesian gamelan, Bollywood soundtracks, Polynesian folk, surf stylistics, & sci-fi thematics) and partly a stupefying surreal ethnography of places yet to be discovered as the collective Bishop Brothers, Mssrs. Gocher and Kang walk that liminal tightrope between Here and There.""Kickin' the Dragon" was live recorded at the "Off Ramp" (now defunct) in Seattle. "Ghost Ghat Tresspass / Sussmeier" was recorded live at "Bottom of the Hill" in San Francisco, and features Eyvind Kang on violin. A portion of "Sussmeier" appears on Kang's Theater of Mineral NADE's CD (Tzadik, 1998). "Shin Paku" and "Maybe I'll Kiss and Die a Fool" were originally recorded during the sessions for "Torch of the Mystic". The songs "Apna Desh" and "Rookoo Bay" originally appeared in remixed form on the 78rpm 10" issued by Perfect in 1994. This release also features the recording debut of Sun City Girl's Javanese Gamelan, acquired in 1993 at a Seattle auction.

Originally released in 1989 to celebrate the band's 10 year anniversary, this 2LP set, taken from various live performances throughout Europe and Japan from 1985-1988, is a kind of "best of", looking back to the band's very beginnings as pioneers of the American post-punk scene, through to their eventual genre-defying evolution into full-fledged members of the international electronic / experimental scene by 1988. The track listing goes all the way back to the band's first singles (1978's "Pinheads on the Move" and 1979's "No Tears"), to a time when Tuxedomoon was in the habit of leading the avant-garde on both American coasts: from San Francisco's post-punk scene and NY's no wave. Soon after the release of 1981's "Desire", having tired of "California r alles" and Ronald Reagan, the band decided to leave the States for the more experimental pastures of Northern Europe. During this time the band released a series of discs on the Belgian-based Cramboy, proving themselves equally able to blaze trails in Europe as well. >From this period come some of their most successful albums to date, including 1985's "Holy Wars" from which we have "In A Manner of Speaking" and 1986's "Ship Of Fools" from which we hear "Reedin' Rightin' Rhythmatic" . Right around the time of this album's release, Tuxedomoon went on a 15-year recording hiatus, reuniting again to release 2004's brilliant "Cabin In The Sky" and eventually coming full circle by traveling together to record in their hometown of San Francisco.
